Abode Alliance has partnered with the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) and Piñata
Financial Empowerment
Abode Alliance has partnered with the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) and Piñata to launch Rent Builds Credit, a financial wellness initiative that helps expand economic opportunity for NYCHA residents across New York City’s five boroughs.
Through Piñata’s platform, residents can strengthen and build their credit profiles by having their on-time rent payments reported to major credit bureaus. Complementing this effort, Abode Alliance provides financial education resources and guidance that equip residents with the knowledge and tools to make informed financial decisions, build financial resilience, and achieve long-term economic stability.

Workforce Development
Changing the Face of Appraisals, launched by Abode Alliance, was created to address historic inequities in housing by increasing diversity within the appraisal profession. The initiative aims to reduce appraisal bias in communities of color while creating pathways to economic opportunity and wealth-building through careers in real estate valuation.
In 2021, Abode Alliance recruited 100 aspiring minority appraisers for a workforce development program that provided professional training, Appraisal Institute coursework, mentorship, and career coaching. The inaugural cohort was highly diverse, with women representing 75% of participants and members coming from a broad range of professional backgrounds. While participant interest was strong, many ultimately remained in their existing careers due to the extensive time commitment, evolving certification requirements, and market uncertainty. Even so, participants valued the opportunity to explore and access a profession in which people of color have historically been underrepresented.
Today, three Black women remain actively engaged in the program, and Abode Alliance continues to support them as they complete their training and work toward licensure. Although challenges persist, ongoing industry retirements and future demand for appraisers present opportunities to build a more diverse and representative profession.
